Top 10 Ways to Make the Most of MBA Annual 2015

    Find me on:

It's that time again, the Mortgage Banking Association's signature event and the most heavily attended conference in the residential mortgage finance industry - MBA Annual Expo and Conference 2015.

This year thousands of our friends in the industry will attend this event in San Diego, CA and NTC is sending some senior level executives to meet with clients, potential clients and exhibit in the San Diego Convention Center from October 18 - 21.

While for some of us have been to this event, many of us have not. We thought it'd be helpful to write a list of the top 10 most important factors to keep in mind when attending a professional convention this large:

    1. Don't forget business cards. Yes, an obvious one, but so many times people just forget to bring them.

    2. Be sure to attend networking events around the conference itself. Yes, there are plenty of incredible education sessions and seminars, but save some time for the networking events in the evenings as they can be invaluable for your business.

    3. The previous one leads us to this one: Eat a healthy and hearty breakfast, packed full with energy boosting nutrients. There's only so much coffee you can drink, eventually you'll crash. You'll need all of your focus to remember names, companies and a sharp mind to spot potential opportunities.

    4. Plan ahead, map out your schedule. Schedule appointments in advance if possible. The days are long and busy, don't leave anything to chance.

    5. Don't miss the keynote speakers. Jay Leno, Gen. Colin. L. Powell, Tucker Carlson, Paul Begala, Dan Gilbert. This might be the only chance you'll ever get to hear directly from these incredible, dynamic people.

    6. Dress for success, but don't forget to bring comfortable shoes. The hotels are large, the walking is plentiful and the long days standing can wreak havoc on your feet. Wear comfortable shoes!

    7. Work hard, play hard right? Well, not really. Let's just say, yes there will be alcohol served at some of these events. But remember to exercise moderation at any cocktail soiree. We all know this, but this is just a reminder. You don't want to get hazy, or potentially embarass yourself in front of any senior level executives in your industry.

    8. If you have any downtime, be sure to take in the sights and local fare in San Diego. We hear they have some amazing sushi restaurants and authentic Mexican food. Can you say seconds?

    9. Know who you are, who your audience is. Don't bore a busy executive with details about something they have no interest in. Do some research on who's going, what companies are there, what side of the industry they're in. You'll be equipped and ready for anything and anyone.

    10. Don't forget to stop by NTC's booth #425, we are giving away desk speakers, cool desktop golf sets (yes we are from Florida!), smartphone chargers and an Apple Watch.

We look forward to see all of our colleagues there!
