NTC's own Meaghan Hunter, National Account Executive, and Mike Verneuille, AVP of Client Services are two of 40 Rising Stars honored in HousingWire's Rising Star Awards this month.
Both of our Rising Stars answered this question: What is one thing you had to overcome to succeed in this industry (or in general)?
Meaghan Hunter answered: "I learned very quickly that my success in the mortgage industry was not going to be based solely on my ambition and desire to succeed. As much as I wanted to achieve my personal goals, I was faced with not only a very complex and ever changing/highly regulated world but with the fact; I was young, inexperienced and a female in a primarily male space. I quickly learned that the foundation of my success was going to be based on extensive knowledge and solid work ethic. I focused on proving myself through these channels instead of exploring ways to overcome the challenges I knew I could not change. This approach proved to be effective over time proven with a highly satisfied customer base and a stellar reputation with my peers. It didn’t happen overnight or without struggles and disappointments along the way but I can say without doubt that after 15 years; I am not done yet." - Meaghan Hunter.
Mike Verneuille answered: "Lack of knowledge regarding the industry. If you don’t truly understand the industry in which you are working, you will struggle to control the various facets of it. In order to overcome this difficulty, I simply adapted a personal philosophy of, “don’t encounter something unknown, and leave without knowing it completely”. I apply this everyday on the job, and it has only added, and bolstered my own success within the company and the industry."
Here's an excerpt from HousingWire:
"...First, our Rising Stars aren’t just people who work hard — they are change agents within their companies. They are at the forefront of optimizing systems, processes or products, often in spectacular ways.
Secondly, they aren’t afraid to take risks. We asked each of the winners to pick one of the following topics for a quote: a habit that is crucial to their success, the best advice they ever got, something they had to overcome to succeed or what they would tell a younger version of themselves. No matter which one they chose, pushing themselves to take risks showed up over and over again.
The headwinds facing the mortgage finance industry are strong, but the perseverance, innovation and passion embodied by HousingWire’s Rising Stars class of 2015 shows that our industry is more than up to the task. See for yourself why we’re confident that the mortgage industry has never been in better hands."
