At NTC we pride ourselves on assisting our client's to stay ahead of technology trends, so we thought we'd share some valuable information on this.
To keep current with internet security and standards we recommend everyone use an updated browser.
Here's why:
-
Internet Explorer (IE) 8 does not fully support current internet standards – many pages, modules and controls will not display or function properly.
-
Microsoft is coming out with a new version of Windows and Internet Explorer either later this year or early 2016. At this time they will discontinue all support for anything prior to Internet Explorer 11. This means they will no longer updates of any kind for these browsers, as such these browsers will become increasingly insecure.
-
If you rely on internal apps that require older IE versions Microsoft is strongly recommending Enterprise Mode for IE11 (which was released in 2014) – this will offer backward compatible support for legacy applications while still allowing you to view/utilize modern websites.
-
See this article for more info on these and other changes: http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-to-drop-support-for-older-versions-of-internet-explorer/
-
Browsers like Chrome and Firefox will work as they are constantly updated. If you can use these then it would be a good option if you are stuck on an older browser.
We recommend you use IE9 for the increased security if nothing else.
